Microsoft Nintendo and Sony Joined Forces
Three console giants Microsoft, Nintendo and Sony have joined forces. The three goliaths believe that hatred, harassment and abuse of young players have no place in games. Companies aim to prevent harassment in games with the cooperation. Putting aside years of competition, giant console manufacturers Microsoft, Nintendo and Sony came together to improve online games. Companies meeting at a common point, especially for young players to make it safer to play games, determined the main lines of the project. The decisions taken are not radical. However, it is clear that they will not tolerate players and other forms of harassment known as ‘toxic’ in the game world.
The three companies promise to offer a range of tools like customization and security tools that are easy to use. In addition to these, there are codes of conduct and systems that prevent harassment before it happens. Companies believe that hate, harassment and abuse of young players has no place in the games. The companies also highlight that they will work with industry partners. These partners include government, law enforcement and rating boards to improve safety. Leading companies in the industry emphasize that they comply with all local laws and that they will respond to all legal requests.
At this point, the joint statement stated that; “When we observe an illegal behavior or believe that a player is at risk of possible harm, we will immediately inform law enforcement”. Microsoft, Nintendo and Sony already have various parental controls and anti-harassment policies. They also have many other measures to make online gaming more enjoyable. However, the cooperation is aimed at reducing inconsistencies and applying more inclusive sanctions.
