All iPhone 13 Models to Have LiDAR Sensor
According to new reports from Apple’s supply chain, all iPhone models to be introduced this year; will have a LiDAR sensor. Moreover, according to Apple’s agreement with Sony; we will continue to see LiDAR sensors on the iPhones to be introduced for three years.
At best, there is a period of 9 months for the introduction of the new generation iPhones; but leaked information about the iPhone 13 family is already here. According to the information provided by DigiTimes, one of the biggest industrial newspapers in East Asia; to sources in the Apple supply chain, all iPhones to be introduced this year will have a LiDAR sensor though.
As you know, Apple added a LiDAR sensor to an iPhone model for the first time with the iPhone 12 Pro models. As a matter of fact, the LiDAR sensor offered to iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max users; was not available on the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 mini models. However, this will change with the iPhone 13, according to DigiTimes.
Notch will continue to appear on iPhone 13 models
DigiTimes said the following in the news that it brought to its pages. “According to our sources, Apple has adopted the dToF LiDAR sensor in the iPad Pro and iPhone 12 Pro series and is expected to be used in all 2021 model iPhones with Face ID technology.”. DigiTimes shared that both the LiDAR sensor will expand to all models and the notch will continue to exist.
Also, according to DigiTimes, Apple has signed a supply agreement with LiDAR supplier Sony that will last until 2023. In fact, this means that we will continue to see LiDAR sensors on iPhones and other Apple devices to be introduced over the next three years.
It is not known whether standard iPhone 13 models will come with a triple camera.
As you know, the only difference Apple makes between the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro models is not the LiDAR sensor. iPhone 12 models come with dual camera setup, while iPhone 12 Pro models have triple rear cameras. There is no information about whether Apple will include a triple camera on all iPhone 13 models with the LiDAR sensor.
What is a LiDAR sensor?
LiDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) is a technology that works with 3D laser recognition technique. This sensor enables environmental factors to be identified and the distance between surrounding objects and the source to be determined. We can say that LiDAR works in some way with the sonar radar system used by bats to find their way.
