AMD Announces Ryzen 5000 Series

AMD announced its Ryzen 5000 series mobile processors with an ambitious launch at CES 2021. According to AMD, the Ryzen 5000 series has the most powerful laptop processors in the world. AMD presented its Ryzen 5000 mobile processors to consumers with its presentation at CES 2021. AMD CEO Lisa Su said “the most powerful computer processors ever produced” for Ryzen 5000 mobile processors.

The new Ryzen 5000 series comes in two separate categories; one for gamers/creators and the other for ultraportable laptops, as in the previous generation. While gamers and content producers establish a close relationship with the performance of Ryzen 5000H processors; Those who want a light and compact laptop will turn to Ryzen 5000U processors. As a matter of fact, the three Ryzen 5000U models have been enhanced with AMD’s previous Zen 2 architecture. As you can imagine, the Ryzen 5000 series is divided into; Ryzen 3, Ryzen 5, Ryzen 7 and Ryzen 9, similar to Intel’s i3, i5, i7, i9 categorization. In addition to the processors named H and HS in the 4000 series, there is a new model with the additional name HX in the 5000 series.

The most powerful processor in the portability-oriented U series is the Ryzen 7 5800U with 8 cores and 16 threads, offering 4.4 Ghz maximum, 1.9 Ghz optimum frequency speed. According to AMD, this processor will offer the highest level of performance in ultrathin laptops. According to PCMark 10, this processor manages to outpace the Intel Core i7-1165G7.

Ryzen 9 5980HS manages to surpass Intel Core i9-10980HK

The most powerful processor in the H series, which gamers will follow closely, was announced as Ryzen 9 5980HS. This processor, which has an 8-core and 16-thread structure, offers a 3.0 GHz base and a maximum frequency of 4.8 GHz. According to AMD, this processor is the most powerful mobile processor that can be used in a laptop. According to AMD‘s statements, the Ryzen 9 5980HS succeeds in surpassing Intel’s Core i9-10980HK processor in Cinebench R20.

In addition, AMD claims that the new HX processors are for the most powerful gaming laptops and states that they will be found in the best gaming laptops of 2021 with 45W + TDP. According to the statements of Lisa Su, the new Ryzen 5000 series mobile processors will appear in more than 150 laptop models in 2021. Of course, the main critical point here is how the Ryzen 5000 series will compete with the Intel Tiger Lake H processors, which were also announced at CES 2021. The first laptops of both processor series are expected to be announced at CES 2021.
