Bethesda Faces With $100 Million Lawsuit
Publisher Ragnarok Game sued Human Head Studio. In the $ 100 million lawsuit against Bethesda. The company is accused of sabotaging Rune 2 to protect the Elder Scrolls.
PC Gamer reported that the case initially started in December 2019, and was focused on Human Head Studios, the original developer of Rune 2. According to Ragnarok, the developers deliberately left the game halfway through launch and refused to provide the source code. So the publisher was also affected by it. The reason for the incident to reach Bethesda Softworks and ZeniMax Media is that Human Head Studios was closed the day after the game’s release. Bethesda bought the company and reopened it as Roundhouse Studios.
According to the lawsuit, Human Head did not notify Ragnarok when applying for a potential purchase to Bethesda and ZeniMax. Then gave the publisher the pre-release version of Rune 2. This gave Bethesda time to investigate if Rune 2 was a threat to Skyrim / Elder Scrolls. Two weeks before the launch of Rune 2, ZeniMax founded Roundhouse Studios. Then used the company to “buy all equipment belonging to Human Head”. According to Ragnarok these include trade secrets, resources and materials. This accusation is also talking about the PR problems. Despite the positive reviews about the game, the next day the news and headlines were about the studio’s closure.
