Cydia Sues Apple For App Store
The Cydia application is a software that allows making various changes on Apple devices such as Iphone and Ipad with the “tweak” method. Cydia is a graphical user interface of APT for iOS. It enables a user to find and install software not authorized by Apple on jailbroken iPhones, iPads and iPod touch devices. Developers only publishes own applications to Apple on the iOS platform via the App Store. Jay Freeman founder of Cydia , sued Apple for not granting other developers the right to publish their software on other platforms.
Cydia was founded in 2007, one year before the App Store. People were editing the things they didn’t like and wanted to change on their Apple devices with Cydia software. After the App Store, Apple took legal action by making various allegations about the illegality of this software. That’s why there has been a fight between them for over 10 years. This fight only got bigger when Cydia sued Apple.
In order for software developers to sell an application or service on the iOS platform; they must use the App Store as both payment systems and platform. Jay Freeman sued Apple to prevent this.
