Gears Pop Is Shutting Down
Microsoft’s mobile and PC game Gears Pop is shutting down. Players have a couple of months to play till servers go offline.
Gears Pop developed by Mediatonic, creators of Fall Guys, was part of another diversification effort that featured Microsoft’s main franchises. The mobile game was announced in 2018 with Gears Tactics before launching in 2019 – an XCOM spin-off in the Gears formula.
A post on Gears Pop‘s official website apologized for having to close the game so early, stating that even keeping the servers online for this multiplayer game became a demanding task.
“There are a number of things that go into maintaining a game beyond keeping servers active,” the post reads. “Addressing issues, developing content, and providing support are critical in keeping a game running. Unfortunately, this is no longer feasible.”
Players who have purchased any Gears Pop‘s in-game item within the last 90 days will receive a full refund, which will begin processing in November. While players can continue to match and earn in-game items until the Gears Pop goes offline. The post states that episode events will return for a final moment.
