Nintendo Has Recorded Huge Profit
Nintendo recorded huge profits for 2020. It sold millions more Switch consoles, raising its financial forecast for the year. It also sold tens of millions of copies of both new and old games.
Super Mario 3D All-Stars slid 5.21 million copies in just 12 days, which was perhaps amplified by Nintendo’s odd decision to take it off sale in late March. Animal Crossing: New Horizons is now at an incredible 26 million in sales since its launch in March, doubling previous New Leaf sales. Its massive sales place it right behind the Switch’s best-selling game; Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, which is now at 29 million copies sold. Pokémon Sword and Shield sales reached 19.2 million units, making it the best-selling Pokémon games couple since the legendary Gold and Silver in 1999. The home workout game Ring Fit Adventure has sold a further 3.1 million copies in the past six months, selling a total of 5.8 million copies since its launch last year.
15 of Nintendo’s own games have sold at least one million additional copies since the beginning of the financial year in April. In the same period last year, Switch sales in the last six months increased by 80 percent, while game sales increased by 71 percent. In addition to 100 million Switch games, 12.5 million Switch consoles were sold.
All this means financial returns for Nintendo; half-year sales are up 73 percent to $ 7.4 billion, and operating profit is $ 2.8 billion, an incredible 209 percent year-on-year increase.
