Pokemon Go has earned nearly $ 4.2 billion worldwide since its launch in 2016. Pokemon GO is claimed to have provided an estimated $ 1 billion so far in 2020. It’s the best year ever for the app that lets you catch virtual Pokemon in the real world.
According to the information announced by Sensor Tower, the game earned $ 832 million in the 2016 launch year. The number of paying players was reduced in 2017 but continued to rise in the first 10 months of 2020. Compared to the total of 2019 and 30% compared to the first 10 months of 2019, the number has increased by 11%. The COVID-19 outbreak clearly had an impact on Pokemon GO. But, developer Niantic has made temporary changes to help Pokemon GO work better for home stayers.
Sensor Tower also mentioned that the game was ranked as “the # 3 mobile game by the global player who spends outside third-party stores like in China”. It only stands behind PUBG Mobile and Honor of Kings.
To date, the game has accumulated nearly $ 4.2 billion in player spendings globally. The US proved to be the most profitable country, with revenue reaching $ 1.5 billion or 36.3% of total expenditure alone. However, Japan ranks 2nd with $ 1.3 billion and Germany 3rd with $ 238.6 million. Google Play accounts for most of Pokemon GO’s revenue. Google Play earned more than $ 2.2 billion, surpassing Apple’s $ 1.9 billion. As the players keep downloading the game, Pokemon GO received nearly 600 million installations worldwide. The US is # 1 in downloads at 109 million downloads. Brazil ranks 2nd with 65.2 million and Mexico 3rd with 37.3 million. Google Play saw 78 % of these downloads at 466 million, Apple accounts for around 132 million, or 22 %.
