US-based chip maker Qualcomm announced the Snapdragon 480 5G, the first chipset in its 4 series with 5G support. The first smartphones powered by Snapdragon 480 5G are expected to be launched in the first quarter of 2021. Qualcomm, which powers many Android smartphones on the market with its chipsets, has announced a new Snapdragon 4 series processor. The mobile platform, called Snapdragon 480 5G, is the first chip in the 4 series to support 5G.

It was first heard at IFA 2020 that Qualcomm would introduce a 5G-powered 400-series chip. With the Snapdragon 480 5G that comes with the built-in Snapdragon X51 modem that can support both mmWave and sub-6 GHz networks, we can assume that 5G support will also come to budget-friendly phones. Based on the 8 nm processing process, the new mobile platform comes with a Qualcomm Kryo 460 CPU, which can operate up to 2 GHz, Qualcomm Adreno 619 GPU and Hexagon 686 processor. Supporting Qualcomm Quick Charge 4+ technology, a first in the 4 series, the chip can have up to 100% increase in CPU and GPU compared to the previous generation Snapdragon 460. However, On the artificial intelligence side, it is claimed to offer a performance increase of 70%.

In addition, Snapdragon 480, which is the first 4 series chip to support 120 Hz FHD + panels; WiFi 6 includes Bluetooth 5.1 and dual-frequency GPS support. The chip, which also supports Spectra 345 ISP, can take triple shots from wide, ultra-wide and telephoto lenses at the same time. The first devices powered by Snapdragon 480 are expected to be introduced in the coming months. With the new chip, 5G support is expected to reach affordable devices under $ 200. At this point, Nokia, OPPO and Vivo may be the first manufacturers to use this chip.
