Reaching the target sales figure with PlayStation 5, Sony continues to work for the console. Sony, which wants to support the PS5 with accessories, stated that it has been working on a new PSVR in the past months. Few details are available about the VR set. However, according to recent reports, Sony is targeting the end of 2022 for PSVR2.
In the past years, many companies, both large and small, have invested in the VR platform. However, the expected explosion did not occur.
According to Bloomberg‘s report, the Japanese technology company will launch PSVR2 towards the end of 2022. The report states that Sony will introduce the VR set “during the holiday season”. This corresponds to between November 2022 and January 2023. Additionally, the new VR set is said to come with a Samsung-made OLED panel instead of an LCD.
OLED panels are of great importance for the Sony PSVR2. One of the most important factors affecting the image quality in VR sets is the panel used and the resolution of the panel. The use of Samsung-made OLED panels will take the VR experience to the next level.
Sony stated that they are working on a new VR set in February. On top of that, the company also shared the images of the controllers to be used in the new VR set. In addition to all this, the new VR set will have higher resolution, wider viewing angle and more precise controllers. Leaks suggest that the PSVR2 will have a resolution of 4000 X 2040.
