Ledger made statements regarding the recent attack that led to the exposure of more than 270 thousand users’ personal information. Saying that the incident did not affect cryptocurrency security; the company’s CEO stated that it was a simple mistake that led to the cyberattack.

A cyber attack was launched against the company that developed USB sticks called Ledger, which are used to collect crypto coins off the stock exchange. This incident has seriously annoyed Ledger users. The reason for this was that the person believed to be the same hacker carried out a similar attack in July. Users accuse the company that developed the cryptocurrency wallet for ignoring the events.

Ledger officials, had to make a statement on the issue. Stating that the attack was not related to the security of cryptocurrencies; the authorities declared that the incident was only related to e-mail addresses. However, Ledger users do not seem to want to accept the statements made.

According to the statements made by Ledger CEO Pascal Gauthier; the reason for the security breach is a simple API error. Additionally, according to the CEO, the absence of an API to transfer data in the database; led to the capture of users’ personal information. Thus, admitting that this was a mistake, Gauthier said it was not intentional. Some cyber security experts say that Ledger‘s encryption applications are not secure enough though.

In an institutional statement, Ledger officials stated that they are doing their best to prevent such a thing in the future; and that they have taken some precautions regarding the issue and they continue to take them.

Regardless, saying that the website in question should be closely monitored; the company emphasizes that new phishing attacks will be reported on the site for users.

Although the company says it is doing its best regarding the events, users do not think so. Users who are exposed to phishing attacks due to both personal information revealed and the information revealed threaten the company with initiating legal action. Subject to the laws of the European Union, the company may face class actions under the laws of the union.
