Tencent Buys Warframe!

Tencent Games, one of the major Chinese companies, acquired and incorporated many studios. Now Warframe developer Digital Extremes joins their ranks. Tencent acquired Leyou Technologies in a $ 1.5 billion deal. The Chinese company will now own more than games and continues to expand.

The deal was first discussed earlier this year, and Sony was involved in the studio. Leyou finalized the deal today. The studio has officially joined Tencent. Leyou is actually a chicken business. They joined the video games industry for the first time in 2014 by purchasing a majority stake in Digital Extremes, the developer of Warframe.

In 2016 the chicken business was no more, thus the company focused completely into the game industry. British developer Splash Damage and Certain Affinity bought 20% of their share value. Certain Affinity is a developer studio that worked on Call of Duty Modern Warfare Remastered and Halo Infinite. This acquisition news could actually be the beginning of a big change in the industry. Finally, they started working with Amazon as a publishing partner on the Lord of The Rings MMO game developed by Athlon Games.

With this move, Tencent’s game library has expanded considerably. The company owns nearly 50 percent of Epic Games, along with all of the developers such as Riot Games and Funcom.
