A new security feature that WhatsApp is working on has been revealed by WABetaInfo. This feature, mentioned for the first time last year but has not experienced any improvement, enables users to encrypt their chat histories. The feature will be available to both Android and iOS users in the near future.
WhatsApp has been on the agenda for a while with its security related issues. They keep updating their security measures in order to eliminate the question marks in users heads. In this context, a new feature that the developers worked on, discovered by the WABetaInfo teams. It also seems to be available for both iOS and Android users in the near future.
Chat Backups Will Feature the Encryption With WhatsApp’s New Feature
As a matter of fact, this feature has been mentioned in the last year, but there was no development on this subject. This feature was the ability for users to set a password for these backups from backups of their chat history to Google Drive or Apple iCloud. This feature, which has not been mentioned for months, is now on the agenda again. Screenshots obtained by WABetaInfo show that the feature may become available shortly. Based on the leaked screenshots, users will be able to create passwords for WhatsApp chat backups if they wish. These passwords will also have to be used during later uploads. However, according to the statement y WhatsApp, the responsibility for the passwords in question is only on the user. If they forget their passwords, the chat history will not be accessible again.
If users want to use a password when backing up their chat history, they will first perform a verification on their existing phone number. After this process, a password consisting of at least 8 characters will need to be determined. If the user wants to upload the chat backup after creating this password, they will first enter this password and unlock the backup. The feature by WhatsApp, will prevent the user’s chat history from being captured by someone else. Although looks like a simple measure, at the end of the day, it will increase the security volume. But remember, if you forget the password you set, you will not be able to access your backed up chat history.
