World’s First 55 Inch 4K AMQLED Display Announced

Chinese electronics company BOE has officially announced the world’s first 55-inch 4K AMQLED display. BOE, one of the companies which specializes in screen technologies, announced the world’s first 55-inch 4K AMQLED display. AMQLED (active matrix quantum light emitting diode) display technology combines the best aspects of current AMOLED (active matrix organic light emitting diode) display technology and QLED (quantum light emitting diode) technology, as the name suggests.

Unlike photoluminescent quantum dot backlight technology, AMQLED displays do not require a backlight; quantum dots simply emit light using current. The self-emitting feature of quantum dots enables a wider color gamut and a long service life.

According to the statements made by BOE, the world’s first 55-inch 4K AMQLED display, offers the users remarkable features such as 3840 × 2160 pixel resolution, 119 percent NTSC color palette and 1,000,000: 1 contrast. BOE, which made an important statement about the AMQLED technology is on a quest to become one of the leading brands of the screen technologies.

In fact, BOE unveiled its first AMQLED prototypes, back in 2017. However, since the prototypes shown at that time were only 5 inches and 14 inches in size, in order for the technology to be accepted, BOE had to work more on this technology and bring the size of the producible AMQLED screen to similar dimensions with today’s TV standards.
