VIK-on, who previously tried to double the memory of the RTX 2070 graphics card, successfully realized this idea on the RTX 3070 graphics card. Unlike the RTX 2070, the graphics card worked stably. In January, it was mentioned about a YouTuber transferring VRAM to NVIDIA‘s GeForce RTX 2070 graphics card. Russian YouTuber named VIK-on unfortunately did not get the desired result in this project. Unfortunately, the graphics card, which was upgraded from 8 GB to 16 GB, did not work stably.
He Did Not Give Up And Finally Succeeded
Not giving up the goal of successfully increasing the graphics card memory, YouTuber has set its eyes on NVIDIA‘s next RTX series this time. VIK-on replaced the RTX 3070 graphics card’s eight 1GB Hynix memories with Samsung‘s 2GB memories in a video uploaded last week. But the result was not different this time.
The computer detects the graphics card whose memory has been upgraded. However, the graphics card had difficulty working stably, just like the RTX 2070, and eventually crashed. Having received clues from viewers watching the video, VIK-on realized that it had to use the EVGA configuration to lock in the frequency of the graphics card.
As a result of this process, the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 video card, which was originally 8 GB, turned into a 16 GB video card. VIK-on showed that the graphics card was working, in a test it performed on 3DMark in the last video it uploaded. The graphics card scored 13,783 points in this test. The overall performance of the computer that was tested with the AMD Ryzen 7 3700X was measured as 12.925.
Does this mean a performance increase in the graphics card? It seems impressive results achieved after the graphics card was upgraded to 16 GB. But we haven’t seen how it performs in the same setup before this modification. Therefore, it is difficult to give an exact answer to this question.
